A rollover crash near Mission Valley left one local teenager dead early Sunday morning. The 14-year old victim was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled several times after the driver lost control. The teenager was declared dead at the scene of the rollover crash.
The rollover crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on North Foothills Road and North Crow Road. Four other passengers were in the crash, all under the age of 16. All four victims were rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in nearby Polson. The deceased victim was eventually identified as Ronan Middle School student Aliyah McCrea. McCrea was an 8th grade honor student at Ronan Middle School.
Investigators with the Montana Highway Patrol said they believe the driver of the vehicle, a Nissan Sentra, lost control and drove into a ditch, sending the vehicle rolling over again and again. McCrea was thrown from the Sentra as it rolled over repeatedly. The remaining victims did not suffer life-threatening injuries from the rollover crash.
The Montana Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the rollover crash, but they believe speed and underage drinking are likely to blame.
