Motorcycle Crash Kills Canadian Near Hobson

A motorcycle crash took the life of a Canadian man late Friday evening just west of Hobson, Montana. A representative of the Judith Basin County Coroner’s Office identified the crash victim as Rex Handel, 52, from Calgary, Canada.

Montana Highway Patrol said Handel was riding a Suzuki motorcycle along US Highway 87 around 9 p.m. near mile marker 58. Investigators believe he lost control making a right-hand turn near a construction zone and then crashed into a construction sign and a delineator post. Afterwards, Handel and the motorcycle skidded hundreds of feet before landing in a ditch.

Handel’s body was not discovered at the scene of the crash until around noon of the following day when a passerby saw him from the highway. Handel wore a helmet at the time of the crash but succumbed to the injuries he suffered to his chest and head. Hobson Ambulance and Fire responded to the scene of the crash.

Montana Highway Patrol is currently investigating the exact cause of the crash.
