ATV Accident Kills Bozeman Boy

A tragic accident involving an All-Terrain Vehicle killed a 12-year-old boy from the suburbs of Bozeman. The boy was later identified as Ty Kendall from Belgrade, Montana by the Gallatin County coroner.

Montana Highway Patrol said the boy died Sunday afternoon not far from Three Forks while off-roading atop an ATV. Police said the accident occurred near Clarkson, Montana near the neighborhood of Ponderosa Pines. The exact location of the crash was at the intersection of Skyline and Spring Valley roads. Kendall was driving north along Skyline Road when he overturned his ATV, a Yamaha 450 model, after failing to negotiate a sharp curve. He then tumbled off the trail and became trapped beneath the ATV.

Investigators believe he remained pinned beneath the heavy vehicle for an estimated two hours before eventually succuming to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Kendall was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor in the accident. Montana Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
